"My house shall be called a house of prayer." Matthew 21:13
History
The story of the church of Letiny dates back to the 13th century. In 1230, Reinerus, the abbot of Kladruby Monastery, bought the village of Přeštice; the purchase included 10 parishes with churches among which also the church of St. Procopius in Letiny was mentioned already as a parochial church. The church was allegedly built in the end of the 12th or the beginning of the 13th centuries by the Knights of Letiny, relatives of the Lords of Kozolupy and a powerful West Bohemian House of Drslavic.Society of St. Procopius
The Society of St. Procopius was founded in 2013 with the aim of maintaining and taking care of historical and architectural monuments in the town of Letiny that has always boasted many buildings lending the town its distinct character, be it the timbered houses, the church of a great historical value, or the spa houses. We believe, that our common effort shall return Letiny its prestigious position within the southern region of Pilsen.Cultural Events
In these days, apart from becoming places of worship once again, churches represent cultural space in a broader sense; the church in Letiny being no exception. The Society of St. Procopius organizes concerts and other cultural and social events, the proceeds from which are invested in further repairs of the church.
